FAQs
1. What age and skill level does my child need to join DDAC?
DDAC welcomes swimmers of various skill levels, from beginners to advanced competitive athletes. Generally, swimmers should be comfortable in the water and able to complete at least 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke. If you're unsure, we offer evaluations to determine the best placement for your child.
2. How often do swimmers practice, and what is the time commitment?
Practice schedules vary by training group and skill level. Younger or beginner swimmers typically practice 2-3 times per week, while more advanced groups may train 5-6 days per week. We encourage consistency and commitment to help swimmers improve and reach their full potential.
3. What equipment does my child need to participate?
Swimmers should have a competition-style swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap. Some groups may require additional equipment like kickboards, fins, or snorkels. A full list of required gear will be provided upon registration.
4. Does DDAC participate in swim meets, and is my child required to compete?
Yes! DDAC is a competitive swim team, and we participate in local, regional, and national swim meets. While competition is encouraged to help swimmers grow and measure progress, newer swimmers are given time to develop before participating in meets. Coaches will guide families on when their child is ready to compete.
5. How do we register, and is financial assistance available?
Registration is available through our website, and new swimmers may need to complete an evaluation before placement. We also offer scholarships for families in need to ensure that every child has the opportunity to swim. For more details or to apply, please contact us at heather.franklin@ddacswim.org.
